Just like Courtney Love, the fine park at Escondido is a man-made concoction of various spare parts. Welded together w/ care and an interesting eye for park design, the metal madness at Escondido is a full on Frankenstein monster of a ride.

Big Ole' Warning!: Waivers, waivers, waivers! If you're not a San Diego county local, you should be prepared to enter the land of waivers if you ever come to visit. Even thou' Escondido is a "public" park, they still require a waiver for anyone under 18, as well as the standard pads required, etc. This is the way is goes almost everywhere in SD - private or public, restrictions *will* apply.

As far as the course goes, it looks good. The street course is like any "competition" set-up, w/ big bike-friendly [yes, bikes are allowed in, but call for times] features, nice 8 ft elevation change, and what looks like good flow throughout. Trannie freaks get even more love as you move to the back of the park to check out the full 12 ft vert, sweet 3 ft mini, and the 6 ft bowl-to-spine combo. The morning we were there the place was crawling w/ little kids, but otherwise it looks like it caters to an intermediate and up crowd.

Other local options include kick ass parks like Encinitas YMCA, Ollie House in Temecula, and Robb Field in Ocean Beach. A slightly less kick ass park is available [and without a waiver!] at Santee. Finally, there's a new park in Coronado - pls send us some pics of that park!

Directions: Coming from San Diego take Interstate 15 north. Exit at E. Via Rancho Parkway and make a right. E. Via Rancho bends to the left [north] and becomes Bear Valley Parkway. Take Bear Valley Pkwy. past San Pasqual Road, and the entrance to the skatepark is about 1/4 mile on the left inside Kit Carson Park - you may have to look around for a while but you'll find it. The address is 3325 Bear Valley Parkway, for more info call the park direct 760.839.5425.
