South Gate Skatepark

* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: LA locs

Pretty sure the South Gate skatepark is a 2002 or 2003 park - it shows. It's kinda on the dinky side, in terms of overall skateable area, but it's original and burly enough to stand out in this part of the world.

This is another Purkiss Rose park [714.871.3638], and a nice effort. The bowl section is really innovative for SoCAL standards - pump bumps, a spine, etc. Looks like fun. The tech stuff is real big [big drops, big rails] with more ledges than diamonds have edges!

Best of in the area - besides this place - check out Montebello, there's a pay/wood park in Torrance, there's a freaky bowl-thing in Bellflower, West Anaheim has a sweet pool, the tech doods like Santa Ana, and to the north is the spectacle that is Upland's fullpipe. Yeah... go skating!

Directions: South Gate is right in the heart of the greater LA area. From the 10 freeway, hit up the 710 heading south. Continue on the 710 past Florence, and exit Firestone heading west. You'll cross Atlantic and then make a left [south] on Hildreth Ave. One block later you'll be at South Gate park. The skatepark is near the "Rec Center" - or whatever that big building is.

^ See that? The bowl at
South Gate skatepark
mixes it up a little, huh?
Looks like they took the weak
round bowl from Paramount
and suped it up! Right on.

^ Those bumps get the flow on!
Flat bottom can bite me, flow is
where it's at!

^ Starin' at stairs

^ ...and mo' stairs!
