Kingman Skatepark

* Outdoor
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: King-sized and ready to go

Sometime about "Day 3" of our Summer Tour we looked out the window of the company truck and saw a previously uncharted skatepark just kickin' it on the side of the freeway. "Hey, what the hell is that doing there?" There wasn't supposed to be a skatepark in Kingman. That, boys and girls, is what you call serendipity. Effortless skatepark scoreage... if only they were all that easy to find.

One interesting thing about a brand new skatepark in a small town is that the kids - for the most part - aren't always ready for it. On the day we were there [some time in late Aug '00], this place seemed like most of the kids had just gotten their rides that morning. Hardly anyone was really tearing it up. You could look at the excellent lines in this park and just know that this place would soon be ripped to it's full potential - but for those early days, these kids had a gourmet kitchen and they were trying to make peanut butter sandwiches. Somebody, turn up the heat and give this place an ass-whoopin'!!!

Directions: The skatepark is located right off of the 40 at exit number 52 in north western AZ. Our notes say the exit is "Stockton Hill," but another source calls this road "Highway 20." In any case, take exit 52 south for 1 block to Detroit. Make a left on Detroit and you should be right on top of it. The skatepark is the large concrete section in the middle of a larger grassy area between Detroit and the freeway.

^ Kingman, AZ: Little town...
great park.

^ Rails, stairs, and
the end of the bowls

^ 50-50 on the first
of two fun boxes

^ Rollers to help
maintain your flow...
that's a good sign!

^ This is the
smaller-sized
pool action at
Kingman

^ Our notes say that
these pools are built
w/ and without coping,
depending on the section

^ Great hips in
this park

^ If you could
look thru the
freak on the
scoot-scoot, you'd
see a 4ft u-shaped
bowl and a spine

^ These kids should
spend more time
playing on the freeway
and less time sitting
on the fun boxes...
Skateparks are for
skating - not sitting!!!

^ Bam! Big bowl
to dirt transfer
for this BMXer
