UPDATED: The original review [and the "Rating" above] for the San Clemente park was based on a submission from Mark Chavez. We've since visited the park ourselves, and we've got new photos and comments for you, but for now, here are Mark's original comments:

"Opened Oct. 28th, 2000. 18,000 sq. ft. skate court. Helmets, Knee and Elbow pads required and enforced. No Bikes."

- Mark Chavez 2000

On one of our Spring Tours in April of '01, we hit the place up on a nice foggy afternoon. If you can't tell from these pics, this is definitely one of Cali's best parks. It's not huge, but it's got sick features and good flow. And just to show up the bullshit bureaucrats that run the parks in the rest of SoCAL - no waiver/monitor/locked gates to deal with. See?!? It can be done... a great park w/ very little hassles. Skate on, skate off - good job!

For more parks in the general area, check out Mission Viejo, Encinitas YMCA, Vans in Orange, and the Ollie House in Temecula. If you can handle the waivers and other unnecessary red tape, you might check out Oceanside, Escondido, or the public park in Temecula. Carlsbad has a park with lights but it kinda sucks - same deal w/ Laguna Hills [pics coming soon].

Directions: Coming from L.A. take Interstate 5 south, exit Pico Avenue and head east for about three miles. Make a right on Avenida La Pata; the park is about two miles up the hill on the right at 241 Avenida La Pata.

^San Clemente
skatepark is brought
to you by who? I'm glad
the park got some
funding, but the "Ralphs
down your throat" logo
kinda sucks...

^ Nice double-
bowl w/ a spine

^ Handrails, a seven
stair, kickers, ledges,
flow... this park is
fully stocked.

^ The flyout zone
was a common route
for a lot of kids
the day we were
there...

^ Here's an overview
of the whole park
