Whether you know it or not, you've seen the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA skatepark a million times. This is the site of one of the most famous big vert ramps in the history of skateboarding. 80' wide by 13 ft tall, 19 ft roll-in, extensions and "floating platform" - big, big, big! It's been in a zillion ads. But the best part about this park- at least for most of us - is everything else.

Beginning w/ 37,000 sq ft, they've got a lot to work with. In addition to the vert ramp, they've got a monster key-hole bowl [totally fun] w/ two blastable hips. They've got at least an acre of street stuff, including kickers, rails, big trannie, all that. Encinitas does mini ramps like Jamie Thomas does handrails - ranging from 6 ft to 4 ft [double mini w/ spine!] to 3 ft to 2 ft - ahhh! Design credits go to Tim Payne [407.695.8215] and some others.

Best feature of the park - and I know it's a little "soft-core" - is the jibby "mini-land" whoopsticles. I don't know what else to call it. It's a series of mini-ramp style features all rolled into one ramp. It's got a vert wall, a spine w/ 6 in. industrial coping, a little kicker, various whoops... all in one ramp. Soooo fun! You can roll around on that thing for hours and never run the same line. Killer. If you like this kind of action, check out the Ollie House for *two* more suped-up versions of this kind of crazy steez on wheels...

Directions: Coming from San Diego take Interstate 5 north. Exit at Encinitas Boulevard and head east. Make the first left [north] onto Saxony Road. The park is on the left in the YMCA. The address is 200 Saxony Road. For more information call the park direct at 760.942.9622.
