Pico Rivera Skatepark

* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free[dom!]
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: Jeremy and the grommits

"Just a note to let you know, our new skatepark in Pico Rivera just opened. Jeremy Wray had some good things to say about the park - and it wasn't just to make us feel good!"

- Jeff Hutchins: Aug '01
  Lawrence Moss [818.248.5200]

"Pico Rivera - a small place for skaters. Sometimes you might see a really good skater in the bowl, but mostly it's a hangout for posers or grommits. Personally, I think they could have done much better, but they only had so much room. Please put this park on the SKATEparkLIST..."

Best thing about this park - which is fun, no doubt - no hassles to ride this place! Compare that to the recently locked gates at Whittier, the miles of red-tape at Bell Gardens, and these shitty little wooden, nazi parks popping up in SoCAL. Ride-on, ride off - is the only way to go. The pad-nannie, baby sitter, "supervised solution" is a waste of time that only keeps skaters out of skateparks. Good job Pico, show the scared PTA-types and the lawyers how it's done!

Directions: Pico Rivera is located between the 5 and the 605, south of the 60 freeway. For the most direct route from the freeway, take the 605 to Pico Rivera. Exit Whittier west to Rosemead. At Rosemead, make a left [south] and continue for a few blocks to Mines Blvd and Smith Park - on your left/east side. If you hit Washington, you've gone too far.

^ I think Charles Strawter from Lawrence Moss
was involved in the design of the park
here in Pico Rivera. He's a good guy.
We gave him a hard time about the bowl
design
they used here and at the La Habra
park. This bowl is just too simple, it's nothing
like the good work being done in parks like
Coronado and Fontana!

^ Black Sheep Todd
on a fitty-fitty.
If you like board-
slides
better, he can
do those, too.

^ SHITEO: Another
Todd clip on this
mute transfer into
the bowl...
[Video: Ali Kermani]

^ Speaking of Ali,
here he is going
frontside on this
rail. Notice the
street gap fun box
in the background.

^ In a separate section, they
have some small stuff... this section
works pretty good, but if you come
flying in here from the bigger part
of the park, you've got nothing to do with
your speed but slam into the fence.
