Taft Skatepark

* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: Close to nothing!

I don't have the guy's name handy, but a long time ago, someone emailed us to tell us to check out the skatepark in Taft CA. I didn't know where that was... Turns out, the reason I'd never heard of it was that NO ONE has ever heard of that place.

Purkiss Rose [714.871.3638] built this park in 2001. I asked a friend of mine with Purkiss if he knew how to get there. He responded with:

"I'm not too familiar with that one."

The reason no one knows about this park - or that town - is that it's in the middle of nowhere! The only noteworthy town nearby is Bakersfield, to the east. To the west is Santa Maria. To the south, Ojai. Ha ha.

Since nobody has ever been to that park - except the locals - I think it's kinda funny that this review is so "complete." Kinda like making a documentary about a dirt road. We spent all day there - I think that's funny, too. It WAS fun. You'd have fun there, if you were to go there... but I don't think you will.

I guess this is just a tribute to the locals, then! Have at it guys, it's all yours!

Directions: "Coming from LA, take the 5 freeway north [70 mi], to the 166 east [20 mi], to the 33 north [about 7 mi]. Stay on 33 and at the light make a left. Now the park is on the right side of the road - go skate!"

"Coming from central/northern CA, take the 5 freeway south to 119 east [18 mi], make a right on Kern street and continue to the stop light - make a left and park on the right side of the road. Park and find your lines!"

"If these direction are confusing, go to the intersection of 10th and Kern streets in Taft and look around... you'll see it."

^ Welcome to Taft

^ This spot is split fairly evenly
into 2 sections. Here's the "bigger"
half of the park. It's not huge,
but it's not bad by CA standards.
Only real complaint is the lack
coping in this half of the park...

^ SHITEO: Anthony
Luna kills this park!
Check this feeble

^ Todd Griffith,

^ SHITEO: This
mutegrab maniac is
a buddy of ours. Rob
Penzel, on a little
tweaker. This hit
was super fun to

^ Here's a few features from the
"smaller" end of the park. On this
side, everything is about 3 ft high
or smaller...

^ Perfect 7-stair
hubba ledge...

^ killTodd again...
50- 50 stall at the
top of a vert section.

^ Here's the spine
section of a flat,
little, round bowl.
It was kinda weird
to ride.

^ Big rewards await
the truly dedicated.
Todd Griffiths has the
pleasure of carrying
these trophies around
all the time...
