Ocean Ditch

* Outdoor: 'Crete and Cactus
* Free
* Trannie [ha!]
* Rating: Rough and tough

"Uh, I know this ditch in Ventura we can skate," Robbie said. It turned out to be a terrible skate spot, but a great day. The pictures came out okay, so you're getting the low down on this one...

The weird part is that Robbie had actually been to this spot before. Why he brought a board with 40 mm wheels I have no idea, but this place was rougher than crushed glass mixed w/ roofing nails. There were rocks, there were cacti, you had to duck under a bridge at one point... the best spot was this jenky miniramp-deal near the water, and it sucked. KillTodd rode it like a rabid donkey, but the rest of us just watched and laughed at our situation and lack of good sense.

After about a 1/2 hour of thrashing around - and just to PROVE we had no good sense at all - Robbie said we should try the OTHER ditch at the top of the hill.

"You gotta climb thru this tunnel for a while, but there's a regular bank ditch up there. It's not that good either, but we could skate it."

That little tunnel was 50 yards of pure corrugated blackness, climbing thru the spider webs up a 45 degree angle. From there, another 60 yards of blackness under 6 lanes of Highway 101. Then, yet another 50 yards of sweatin' the paranoia as you climbed thru the dark to a mud puddle, and that lame ditch Robbie had lined up...

Yep. This spot sucked, but it was great day. It reminds me of that bumper sticker fisherman slap on their pickup trucks: "Even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day working." That's probably true.

Skate hard.

Direction: You don't want to ride this place... for skatespots with out the hassle, check out this list of skateparks I heard about. And for a cooler ditch that actually rips, check out the Knapper.

experience.

^ Nothing like 2 ft of trannie,
a worthless run up, a touch of
vert and small wheels to get your
session on! KillTodd and his
Modest Mouse shirt rule the day.

^ KillTodd could skate
hubcap if wanted to...
purty shot, huh?
