White Rock

A great many of you young skate brats out there have already seen plenty of the fine White Rock skatepark. This park - prior to the birth of Hastings - was kind of the "official skatepark of Slam City Jam"... They usually have a BBQ there in conjunction w/ the World's most fun skate contest. Everyone from 411 to various shop videos cover White Rock as part of their SLAM coverage.
First thing to know about White Rock is that it's got probably the deepest, gnarliest snakerun in the area. It's real deep, and some of the edges are steep enough to bluntslide, etc. Local hero Alex Chalmers has a famous "100 ft long" noseblunt in that thing from some time in the y2k [it's in a ton of videos]. Apparently, the snakerun is the original part of the park - the street course was added later...
Speaking of street-isms, they have a bammer fun box thing w/ multiple kinked rails / ledges, etc. They also have some totally original street thingies like a very long curved rail and a death box setup.
In this part of British Columbia, you've got a number of other parks pretty close by: Check out Brookswood and Richmond for nearby sessions. Aldergrove - if you like little bowls - is also close. For bigger bowls check out Parkgate and Hastings.
Directions: From Vancouver, take the 99 south toward Surrey. You want to exit 24th Ave and head west. The skatepark is in the middle of a *huge* park called South Surrey Athletic Field. Just west of 148th, make a left into the park grounds and roll around until you see the skatepark. It's on the west side of the road, in the south/western portion of the park in general.
