Thornton Skatepark
|
* Outdoor: 'Crete / Wood
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: Best of Denver
In Denver - land of the McParks - Thorton is a like a breath of fresh air. Fun to ride, creative, w/ cool features, at the time these pics were taken [10/00], it was the best park in the Denver area.
While it does have a few drawbacks [short run-ups, gnarly crash-up factor], the park is an interesting design. To begin w/, it's got a nice range of elevation - at least 7 feet from the low to high points of the park. If it was empty [don't count on it], you could flow around pretty well. The wooden fun boxes in the center are a cool idea, cause they can be swapped for new ones once in a while for variety...
If you like this park, you might like Littleton as well. Best bet for the area [better than Thornton, but father away] would be Boulder. Other opportunities include the McParks in Golden, Wheatridge, Arvada, Brighton, Longmont, etc. Rumor has it Denver has a Vans park, too [Got pics?]???
Directions: From Denver, take Interstate 25 north to the Thorton Parkway exit. Head east on Thorton Parkway and make a right [south] on Washington. Take Washington to Eppinger make a left [east]. Take Eppinger to Gaylord and make a left [north]. Turn into the Community Center parking lot and park. The skatepark is behind the Community Center.
