The first time I saw the Kona park in action was on TV. There was a special on Tim Payne on "X 2 Day" on ESPN. He was talking about "riding parks since he was a kid" and they included some footage of a gnarly old concrete vert wall / bowl setup. "Whoa," I said, "what the hell was that." Next thing I know I'm watching a video by the *HomeSlice* crew and I'm looking at what looks like acres of trannie. "Where is that shit!?!" Jump to a few months later, we're packing for our first trip to the "sunshine state"... you better believe I was gonna have to peep that nonsense for myself.

Kona has everything and it's twice as big and hardcore as I ever thought it was. They've got old school that's actually old, including a wicked downhill snake run, a weird 70's "freestyle" area, a big porcelain pool and a vert ramp from 1989 built entirely of concrete. They've got wood too. There's a big +6 ft wood mini-to-mini spine w/ extensions and another wooden vert ramp. Finally, a jumbo metal street course w/ ample kickers and big country trannie for everyone. Late sessions are popular to beat the heat and extensive lighting means the trannie freaks come out at night!

The park's roots trace back to 1977, w/ new additions along the way to keep the park up to date w/ today's more technical tastes. The following pics should give you an idea of what to expect, but submissions are encouraged - get on it and we'll make you famous!

Directions: Kona is located in Jacksonville, in the northeastern corner of the state. Coming from the south, take I-95 North to State Road 115 North [Southside Blvd]. Take the 115 to Atlantic Blvd and make a left [west]. Less than a mile along Atlantic, make a right [north] on Century - into a residential neighborhood. Kona is 1/2 mile up on the right at 8739 Kona Ave. For more info call the park direct at 904.725.8770.
