XGames Skatepark
|
* Indoor: Wood / 'Crete
* Pay: $15 max per session [2 hrs]
* Vert / Trannie / Street
* Rating: X-rated
Following in the footsteps of the Vans parks, X Games skatepark is the first of several "park in the mega-mall" skateparks ESPN is working on.
Despite the obvious "Woodward" signage, this is NOT a Woodward park - they just built it for ESPN. From the pics below, it looks like tech-influenced, competition style, psuedo-street courses. Lots of fun boxes, ledges, rails, foam pit, a vert ramp... pretty much what the X Games likes to focus on.
We actually heard about this place when a buddy of ours - Richard Brito of Two Skateboards - went to Atlanta for the X Games trials. He ripped it up and had a great time... If you're into this kinda park, we hear they're working on parks like this in Philly PA, Dallas TX, Fort Lauderdale FL.
Directions: The skatepark is about 30 minutes north of downtown Atlanta, off Highway 85. Exit the 85 at Sugarloaf Pkwy [exit 108] - you should be able to see the Discovery Mills mall from there. As you exit onto Sugarloaf, head east and then make a right onto N. Brown Road. Enter the mall and the skatepark is on the left. For more info, call the park direct at 678.847.5727.
