Kapa'a Skatepark

* Outdoor: Asphalt
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: Aloha airtime...

Yes, Kauai has a skatepark. We hear Hawaii - as in "The Big Island" - has a few great parks, and some great skaters, but Kauai has their own little thing going on. It's simple, the flow's not that great, but it works and the locals rip the place apart.

The reports we heard were that this park went up early in '00. The land was kicked down by the state, but the skate community generated all the materials and labor - good for them for kickin' down the hard work. The park seems to ride well, despite the heat [real hot there!] and the red dust that covers everything on the Island.

Directions: The parks is in Kapa'a [or pretty close to there] which is about 5-10 miles from the airport in Lihue. To get there take Highway 56, then turn away from the coast onto a little curvy side street by the ABC store. It's right behind a Harley retailer, about 2 blocks inland from 56. Not perfect directions, but they should get you there.

We'd like to get more coverage of the Islands up, so if you've got the footy, rumors, etc., pls send it in and we'll post.
