Newburyport
|
* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free
* Vert / Trannie
* Rating: Imported from America!
When we're on tour we try to cover a lot of ground. We'd like to take our time, but there are SO MANY PARKS OUT THERE that we gotta get up early and work late just to complete the kind of half-assed job you'd expect from us. However, when we tell you that we hit up Newburyport three times... well, you gotta know this is no ordinary lump of concrete.
Regarding the "Imported" rating, this beauty was assembled w/ pride by Airspeed [503.791.4674] - Southern Oregon's design/built team. Big ups to those guys! In case you're just hearing about this creative concrete crew, these are some of the same folks that brought you timeless classics like Ashland, Jacksonville, and Talent [all in Oregon]. I don't know how Newburyport got them to come across country to build this park, but I wish they'd come down to SoCAL and build a couple here as well.
In case this park's greatness escapes you at first sight, the secret is in the flow! Not only do these bowls ride sweet on their own, but they also spill into each other for push-free riding until the lights go out. Add to that burly 3 inch painted coping, escalator sections and bowled corners and you'll soon discover what a real park is all about! If you're looking for a teched-out parking lot style park w/ a couple of lousy manual pads, you won't like this place. However, if you're ready to wipe the sweat outta your eyes and buck up to some wicked lines, you've come to the right place! Put a fork in her, she's done and ready to roll - go get some!!!
Shout Outs: We owe some proper respects to a gang of locals we met late one night. This crew has their work cut out for them, but they don't complain much. Much thanks out to Ollie, Aiden Hyde, Jeremy "Harold" Zimbrowski and Maniac Sander Cowie for selflessly donating all that blood to the mosquitos and for takin' their lumps w/ a smile. Here's to more great sessions.
Directions: Newburyport is in the northeast corner of Massachusetts. Take Highway 1 to Newburyport and turn off of the highway onto Low St., heading west. Take Low St. to Rupert A. Nock Middle School, which will be on the right. Pull into the school parking lot and park. The skatepark is behind the school buildings, near the school fields.
