Rockin' the microphone like a couple of bad ass Emcees, we took *our* pics and the downtown comments of Biggie Smalls [aka Malkym] and put together this review of Portland's skatepark - the Forum. Now I know what you're thinking - you thought Biggie caught a cap in his ass, right?. I did too!!! But it turns out he's alive and kickin', pushing wood around Portland as we speak... don't tell the Feds, thou'.

"This is Portland's only replacement for the still mourned 'Zone Sk8park.' It was put up sometime in 1999, so a couple of Maine winters have done some damage to it - not to mention the thousands of bikers that smash holes in the ramps and dent the coping."

"The whole course is set up on a parking lot. There is an 8 foot halfpipe with skatelite material. Smooth ride, but there's a quarter-sized hole in it for some reason [bikers!]. There are also a couple kickers on the sides of it, and a 7 and 8 foot wall on the end."

"Facing the walls are a couple of decent ramps to get air on - not much in the way of coping on them though. There's also a 10 foot manual pad with coping on both sides, and a square rail - good for boarders [someone stole the short version of this rail]."

"This is a good place to ride if you have a decent imagination and aren't afraid of air or transfers. It can be crowded at times - like from 11am-9pm! The best time to skate is from 11pm-5am [bring a towel to wipe the morning dew off the ramps], it's like having your own personal skatepark. The rest of the time it's mostly bikers and newbies. Some old-school skateboarders come by every now and then, and fewer rollerbladers than you'd imagine."

"Come skate sometime in the summer, preferably. You might even find a free air-pump a biker left behind or someone from Bangor sleeping under one of the ramps. If you're in the area, you can get the #8 bus across the street - it will take you to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal, a fairly decent place to skate."

Directions: Coming from the South, take 295 to Maine. Take exit 7 into Portland. From here it's just a right turn onto Marginal Way and about 1/10th of a mile down the road on your right. If by some chance you come from the North, it's still exit 7... If you get lost, ask for directions to the Department of Human Services - the building is right across the street from the park.

^ Malkym's... I mean, Biggie's review
was perfect, but just in case you
need some visual stimulus, check
the pics of Portland's "The Forum."

^ There's a manual pad for you
[note the biker damage],
and some kickers

^ "Smooth ride," says the B.I.G
