Gig Harbor Skatepark

* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free
* Trannie / Street
* Rating: You gonna dig the Gig

We'd like to nominate Gig Harbor for "Hesh Park of the Year."

In a "we can't quite put our finger on it" kinda way, this might be our favorite skatepark ever. The locals seem to know how lucky they are, 'cause they do more carving than Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon. And while it may not be the biggest park in the Northwest [it *is* big though], Gig has more flow than the Columbia River - and that's the way we like it, baby!

Gig Harbor is located on the west side of the Tacoma Narrows bridge in the middle of Washington's "skate epicenter." While you're in the neighborhood, you should check out some other WA parks including Seattle's SeaSk8, the West Hills park in Kent, Vashon Island's Burton Street Course and North Bend skatepark [east of Seattle].

Directions: From Tacoma take Interstate 5 heading north until you come to Highway 16. Take that west over the famous Tacoma Narrows bridge. About five miles along on the Gig Harbor side of the bridge, exit Gig Harbor City Center and [heading east] hook up w/ Pioneer Way. Hang a right [east] at Pioneer. Right after you exit the highway, you should see a Burger King on Kimball Dr to your right. The park is across the street from BK, behind some big trees. If you don't like that route, you can also stay on Pioneer, pass Kimball on your way to Grandview St, make a right [south], and circle around the park from the back. Now go "gittit!" We wish we were there... [Thanks to Hyde Baker for the corrections to these directions.]
